Apakah Orang Benar tidak Ditimpa Malapetaka?:Sebuah Kajian Hermeneutik-Teologis Berdasarkan Amsal 12:21

Proverbs 12:21 states that "The righteous will have no calamity, but the wicked will always be in trouble." This statement seems to contradict the reality of life, where even the righteous experience suffering and hardship, while the wicked often enjoy success. This contradiction raises theological and hermeneutic questions about the true meaning of God's righteousness and providence in human life. The purpose of this study is to interpret Proverbs 12:21 in depth to find its moral and theological message in the context of believers' character building. The research gap lies in the tendency to interpret wisdom texts literally without paying attention to their theologist dimensions for practical life. Based on the hermeneutic-theological method, the results of this study show that first, Proverbs 12:21 affirms the moral principle of God's protection for the righteous who live with integrity; second, the term ra'ah (calamity) refers to the moral consequences of a misguided life; and third, righteousness in Proverbs emphasizes character building in harmony with God's wisdom. The implication of this study confirms that a correct understanding of the wisdom text will help believers build resilient character, integrity, and faithfulness to God in the midst of the reality of life that is not always easy.
Abstrak
Amsal 12:21 menyatakan bahwa “Orang benar tidak akan ditimpa malapetaka, tetapi orang fasik akan senantiasa celaka.” Pernyataan ini tampak berkontradiksi dengan realitas hidup, di mana orang benar pun mengalami penderitaan dan kesulitan, sedangkan orang fasik sering menikmati keberhasilan. Kontradiksi ini menimbulkan pertanyaan teologis dan hermeneutik tentang makna sejati kebenaran dan pemeliharaan Allah dalam kehidupan manusia. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menafsirkan Amsal 12:21 secara mendalam untuk menemukan pesan moral dan teologisnya dalam konteks pembentukan karakter orang percaya. Kesenjangan penelitian terletak pada kecenderungan menafsirkan teks hikmat secara harfiah tanpa memperhatikan dimensi teologis bagi kehidupan praktis. Berdasarkan metode hermeneutik-teologis, maka hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pertama, Amsal 12:21 menegaskan prinsip moral tentang perlindungan Allah bagi orang benar yang hidup berintegritas; kedua, istilah ra‘ah (malapetaka) menunjuk pada akibat moral dari kehidupan yang salah arah; dan ketiga, kebenaran dalam Amsal menekankan pembentukan karakter yang selaras dengan hikmat Allah. Implikasi penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pemahaman yang benar terhadap teks hikmat akan menolong umat percaya membangun karakter tangguh, berintegritas, dan setia kepada Allah di tengah realitas hidup yang tidak selalu mudah.
